When you are remodeling or constructing a new bathroom it is important to take into account various aspects about these two fixtures and base your choice on the basis of functionality, comfort and décor, in that manner of importance.

Do not choose white if the bathroom is going to be used frequently by many people as it will leave stains and is very difficult to maintain. Use darker shades or neutral colors which will not show so much use and staining.

Although porcelain is the most obvious choice it can chipped and broken easily over a period of time if lot of people are constantly using these fixtures. The best option is metal but it may not look so good and could cost much more than porcelain. You will have to find some middle ground and make your choice here and weigh carefully how much of functionality you want to sacrifice over good décor.
