Propane gas like any other gases packed in tanks often need refilling once the gas in the tank is all spent. This is because buying new tanks every time the gas runs out can be very expensive and uneconomical to the consumer. Every propane tank and any other gas tanks have their capacity and there is always a label somewhere on the tank to show exactly how much propane can be safely pumped into the tank without the risk of damaging the valve of the tank. The water content value stamped on the tank should be used to calculate the right amount of propane that can be safely pumped into your propane tank. When you go to the filling point, it is important for the dealer to start by measuring the weight of the tank after which e/she should be able to get the gross or full weight of the tank. It is from these records that the dealer will be able to calculate your bill after the filling of the tank.

By observing the above steps to the latter, you are assured that you will not be charged for gas that has not been pumped into your tank. As the dealer fills the tank, there is another major factor that he/she must take into consideration as well. This is the balance of the propane gas in relation to the water content value. This is because propane as a gas may need some space to expand within the tank should the tank be subjected to some heat. If the ratio does not give room for that expansion, the pressure from the expansion may force the valve out leading to the leakage of the gas into the atmosphere.
