Propane Tank Dimensions
Propane being a popular alternative fuel is very commonly used to operate grills fueled by gas and to heat pools, fuel fireplaces and even to power lighting, usually outdoors, because it requires high amounts of energy.
Different dimensions are used for different propane tanks available for sale from the Mission Gas Company. All measurements are in inches and pounds. For the Trinity LPG, sizes available are 250, 500 and 1000 gallons. These have diameters ranging from 31.5 to 40.96 inches, length from 86.5 to 190 inches, height from 39 to 49 inches, and weight from 472 to 1729 pounds. American Propane provides tanks in the same sizes and approximately same figures, as does Thomson Propane and Quality Steel. Quality Steel tanks are the biggest, and so you might want to consider these if safety is an extremely important issue for you.
If you don't know what the size of your tank is, there are ways to figure it out, so don't worry about it. It can identify by weight if it is full or empty, with a few simple measurements, even if it is partially full. You must know the size of your tank, because depending on the appliance you use, they may recommend a specific tank due to limitations of space and length of the hose that supplies the gas. The size is given by the pounds of propane that the full tank holds, so this knowledge will also help you calculate the usage of propane so you can calculate expenses, much like mileage for your car.
Hold the measuring tape, one side against the bottompart and the other at the propane tank collar. This will give you the height. The collar is the piece of metal that holds the valve at the top of the tank. Then, find the diameter at its widest point, and compare your results against these: 18 inches tall and 12.5 inches in diameter for a 20 pound tank, 24 inches tall and 12.5 inches in diameter for a thirty pound tank, 29 inches tall and 12.5 inches in diameter for a forty pound tank, and 48 inches tall and 14.5 inches diameter for a hundred pound tank. These values will help you figure out the dimensions of your tank.
Once you know the dimensions, it's easier for you to refill your tank and find out exactly how much fuel you are using and will need each time you refill.
