These propane regulators if used on their own can service appliances and equipment that are in high demand. The difference between this type and the residential applications is that the former contains service pressure that is measured in water column while the other uses pressures that are measured in the unit of pounds.

Examples of these types of appliances include crop dryers, industrial boilers and roofing tar kettles and they will generally use high pressure regulators due to the fact that propane is such that pressure of delivery must be high enough so that it matches the demand of the appliances. These regulators are designed to function in either vapor service or propane liquid while there are other types which are specifically designed to function only in LP Gas vapor.

The capacities of these propane deliveries of these high pressure regulators meet the BTU ratings which are up to 10 million BTU/hr or even higher. This translates to usage that is more than 110 gallons in every hour. To supply such a huge amount of gas at a constant level demands that there be a high level pressure regulation.

The adjustment of the LP Gas pressure in high pressure propane facilities and their processes is achieved by adjustable high pressure regulators, which are also referred to as direct operated regulators. The main reason for having an adjustable regulator is to make sure that the requisite pressure needed by the appliance is at the time when the level of the liquid in the tank is not so fast as to cope with the gas appliance demands. Simply put a regulator which is adjustable makes up for the lack of vaporization by letting in more pressure during the outlet and into the gas line that is downstream.

It is common to see high pressure regulators attached to tanks and bottles that supply the roof tar kettles, torches that are propane powered and asphalt mixers. The adjustable high regulators are not made in way such that they can be used to service valve; instead, they are made to give room for manual intervention in the control of delivery pressure as dictated by the appliance.

Sometimes, the LP Gas systems that operate with work with high pressure lines that are found downstream of the regulator may require extra protection because of the excessive pressure that may build up in the pipe. This calls for high pressure apparatus to be fitted with valves to regulate the pressure build up.
