New Propane Tank
There are three reasons to purge a propane tank; they are, when you get a new tank, when you open your old tanks valve, or if you update the tanks valve. Air somehow enters the tank, which has moisture in it and not a good solution with propane. When transporting a new propane tank, it is filled with air to obtain the correct pressure balance.
After you have purged the air from your new propane tank, you will need to go get it filled at your local retailer that handles propane. It will cost you approximately $20 to $30 to fill a 20-pound propane tank. The cost will vary depending on the retailer. When you have filled your new propane tank with propane, you will then attach it to your grill or other propane appliance. In order to connect a new propane tank to your propane device you should follow these simple steps:
Set the propane tank on a flat, clear piece of ground. This way you will be sure to prevent your device and propane tank tipping or falling over.
Most propane devices are manufactured with a spot to place the propane tank onto the device. Place the propane tank onto the device or set it on the ground next to your equipment.
Keep the valve closed when attaching the new propane tank to your propane device.
Use the proper connections and hoses for the propane unit that you’re going to use.
Locate the propane devices fitting; it should be a threaded fitting. Securely attach the new propane tank to your device and the propane tank.
Inspect the hoses and connections for leaks. The best way to check for leaks is to put dish soap and water into a spray bottle and spray the area you are checking. If there is a leak, the dish soap will bubble. Make sure you turn the tank off if a leak is located. Disconnect the fittings and reconnect to the propane device. You may have to do this several times before no leaks are located.
You are now ready to use the propane device you have easily connected to your new propane tank.
People use new propane tanks for fireplaces, outdoor lighting, heating pools, temporary heaters, and for gas grills. Propane is becoming the most popular fuel of choice. Remember when using any propane appliance to light the pilot light before turning on the device.
