Residential Propane Tanks
Residential propane tanks are used at houses where there is no or less shortage of natural fuel; there are different sizes and types of residential propane tanks. Before buying a residential tank it is advised to have a good knowledge about the kinds of residential tanks that are available and the methods of installing them.
Residential propane tanks are usually referred to the big propane tanks that are fixed in the house or in the underground, the propane is refilled after it is exhausted. While installing a propane tank at home, it is essential to plan this well before the start of house construction. The installation of a residential propane tank involves a lot of piping and other lay outs to be planned. Fixing a residential propane tank at the house is said to be cheaper than buying the small capacity propane tanks often.
The residential propane tank is fixed inside the compound of the house; it is also fixed underground at some places. The propane tank is connected to the devices of the house through pipe lines just like a water pipe. A valve is present in the propane tank which is used to open or close the supply of propane to the appliance at home. The pipeline can be connected to any kind of heating device or a stove present in the house.
The capacity of a residential propane tank varies from 250-1000 gallons, depending upon the number of people residing in the house, the climate and other needs, the tank type to be installed can be decided. There are two ways of availing a residential propane tank, the first one is to but the tank that suits the need of the house and installing, this method is expensive at certain times. The other method is to get a residential propane tank for a lease of about one year for a monthly payment of around 100 $.
Once the fuel in the tank is spent, the gas service providers can be called and asked to refill the tank. For people who use the fuel rarely, a 500 gallon propane tank is enough to feed the house for a year. Residential propane tanks are usually made of steel; they have a safety valve that is used to turn on or off the fuel supply. It is good to place the tank at a distance of no more than 150 feet from the road, because while refilling the truck that brings gas usually has a pipe of length not more than 150 feet.
