Some diabetes test equipment requires the use of coding to match the strip to the meter. If the strip is not coded correctly, the strip will not work. In order to avoid waste, a diabetic patient must wait for the code to appear before applying the same. New models of diabetes testing equipment do not require the strips to be coded. This is an attempt to minimize waste and make the meters more user-friendly.
