Fiber Optic Testing Equipment

There are several fiber optic testing equipment devices that you will need if you are going to be a tester. Once the cables have been installed and terminated you will need to have the fiber optic testing equipment on hand or have a professional on the job site to do the testing for you. Every fiber optic plant will have to be tested, so you may want to keep the equipment on hand.

If there are many splices of the fiber optic cable, you will need to check on each individual splice with an OTDR. Your fiber optic testing equipment can help you do just that. If your plant is the network user, you are going to want to test the power so that you know if the system is working correctly. There are several fiber optic testing equipment devices you will need to do the job right.

Some of the fiber optic testing equipment you will want to have would include an optical loss test set, source and power meter or a test kit that works with the cable plant that is being tested. You may need hybrids if the job calls for it when it comes to reference test cables. Other fiber optic testing equipment you could need is a fiber tracer or visual fault locator. If you are doing an outside plant job, you will want an OTDR and launch cable.

Besides having the fiber optic testing equipment on hand for a job there are other important products that you will want to carry to the job site. If you find a problem, you may need fiber optic patch cable accessories. These would include the patch cables themselves, pre-terminated assemblies, mode conditioning and MTP cables and modules.

You may also need some fiber optic hardware or accessories to go along with you fiber optic testing equipment. These items would be mating sleeves, termination boxes, optical attenuators and bare fiber adapters. Before starting any job, be sure to have all of your supplies with you so that the testing can go smoothly and quickly.
